Jason “Chad/JP/and a few other names” Calloway
I grew up watching the Pacific from the OB cliffs, and I’ve been trying to put that movement
on canvas ever since. My work isn’t about making a pretty picture of the beach; it’s about the
feeling of being in the water when the light hits a wave a certain way.
I use acrylics and resin to build depth, trying to capture the kinetic energy of a swell rather
than just a still image. I spend most of my mornings in the lineup, not just to surf, but to
study the way water moves and breaks.
I’m not a fan of over-complicating it. I’m just a surfer who paints what he sees. My pieces are
in homes from Australia to France, but the work is really just an extension of my life in the
ocean.
